X-Men: New Beginnings
“Since the dawn of existence, there have always been moments when the course of history shifted. Such a turning point is upon us now: the conflict between the better and worse angels of our very nature, whose outcome will change our world so greatly.” These were once the words of Professor Charles Xavier, and they speak the truth. The very nature of mankind, human and mutant alike, consists of the battle between good and evil. This battle wages among all of us, as well as inside of each of us.
The Alkali Lake incident is in the past. Although William Stryker is no longer a threat to mutantkind, the Mutant Registration Act has once again been set before congress. The idea of a list of registered mutants is the least of the concerns that face the X-Men.
After a minor re-construction of the Westchester facility, what was once known as the Xavier School for Gifted Children is now known as the Xavier Institute of Higher Learning, and the student body continues to grow. Charles Xavier has taken his leave of the Institute, leaving Ororo Munroe and Scott Summers in charge.
Magneto continues to rule, unquestionably, over the Brotherhood of Mutants, whose very existence may prove to require the Mutant Registration Act. With Xavier away from the Institute, will he attempt to lure any potentially straying X-Men to his side of the human/mutant debate? Or would Magneto just as soon not deal with the larger percentage of that debate?
To aid in the fight against mutants, a secret government funded project, set forth by Trask Industries, is well underway: Sentinels that can detect the mutant gene may be the only solution.
“There will be no going back.”
