style;; Lex believes himself to be superior to average human beings, both intellectually and financially. His clothing style reflects this; he is rarely seen wearing anything other than one of his trademark black suits, consisting of a black waistcoat over a white undershirt, a thin black tie, and an impeccable black suit coat. The cut of these suits visually enhances his physical form, giving him a powerful, almost regal presence that he never hesitates to use to his advantage. His smart dressing, combined with his silver tongue, make for a highly confident, charismatic, utterly reassuring air that does a very effective job of masking the ugliness of Lex's many neuroses, particularly his obsession with Superman.

quirks/habits;;
-Constant invention/learning: Lex lives his life in constant pursuit of greater knowledge, and thus keeps his mind working 24/7. Even when you believe you have his attention, it is very likely that some part of his brain is focused on designing the circuit board for a chess-playing/Superman-killing robot, or learning an obscure language that died out years ago.
-Puzzles and Games: When faced with particularly challenging problems, Lex has been known to order whole boxes of puzzles and games from Metropolis' many toy stores. The purely logical problem solving elements of jigsaw puzzles, Rubix cubes and disentanglement wires help to lubricate the cogs of his brain and enable him to see solutions that were not obvious before.
-Left-handedness: Lex is left-handed. Though he has never shared this belief with anyone else, he has always seen this as yet another example of his superiority to the rest of the human race. As he spends a great deal of his time at Lexcorp writing, he once designed a formula for instant-drying ink, the better to write without smearing his hand or the paper.
-Brandy: Lex enjoys brandy, particularly cherry cognac. He owns a private distillery somewhere in France that produces this special brandy specifically for his consumption. It's become something of a tradition of his to celebrate successful ventures, criminal, business or otherwise, with a snifter of this fine liqueur.
-Smugness: Due to a lifetime spent convincing himself of his own superiority, Lex wears a near constant expression of smug satisfaction. This facial quirk has become so ingrained in his behavioral routine that he can no longer suppress the urge to smirk in a self-satisfied way, even in the presence of people he is supposed to be flattering or deferring to.
goals/dreams;;
-Luthorism: Lex's greatest ambition is to see the world recognize him for the superior being that he believes he is and, ultimately, accept a system of beliefs and values that he has dubbed Luthorism. Essentially a religion with Lex as God, Luthorism is the ultimate triumph of science over superstition, the path to mankind finally reaching its true potential and fulfilling its final destiny... At least, this is what he claims. In truth, it boils down to Lex wanting to be told that he is right, always was right, and will continue to be right indefinitely, because he's smarter than everyone else.
-Death of Superman: Lex has always claimed that Superman is no protector, but an invader. He believes the strange visitor from another world has no right to meddle in the affairs of Earthlings, and that his constant representation of an impossible, unreachable ideal has stunted mankind's growth. Like his devotion to Luthorism, this "philosophy" is simply a mask for a simpler, far more petty truth; Lex hates Superman because he's everything Lex claims to be, but really isn't. He can't stand the idea of there being someone both entirely pure morally as well as strong enough to enforce his ideals. Not to mention, Superman has a way of putting a stop to LexCorp's less-than-admirable business ventures.
-Universal Dominion: An avid Astrologist, Lex has always known that we are not alone in the universe. For the time being, he has focused his efforts on Earth, but eventually, he intends to spread his empire out among the stars.
-Lois Lane: Ever since the intrepid young reporter first rose to fame at the Daily Planet, Lex has wanted her for himself. She has always spurned his advances, but he has never let this stop him. Whether it's a question of trying to acquire something he isn't meant to have or of truly having feelings for Lois is a subject of much speculation and debate. His attempts at courtship have been well documented; he has been accused of being everything from a heartless celebrity looking for a trophy wife to a misunderstood loner looking for someone who really understands him. After such a long time, even Lex himself isn't sure what the truth of the matter is.
overall personality;;
Lex's overall personality can be split into two distinct sub-personalities; who he wants you to think he is, and who he really is.
The first persona is the ultimate example of the cool businessman. Calm, collected and on-the-ball, Lex manages to stay witty and genial, even under high-pressure situations. He rarely loses his temper, usually opting to see other sides to the argument when others disagree with him. When not in business-mode, Lex is warm and kindhearted, always willing to stop and enjoy a chat with an old friend or sign an autograph for a starstruck grad student. Personable in nearly every way, there's very little not to like about Lex.
The second persona is monstrous in its ugliness. Trapped in an endless cycle of hatred at a world that has wronged him and deeply internalized self-loathing, Lex is nearly always mean-spirited and nasty toward others. Something as simple as asking where the bathroom is will likely be taken as a personal attack, and will earn the questioner a number of snide remarks, as well as no small amount of intellectual posturing on Lex's part. At his core, he is a deeply insecure man who feels that no matter how much he achieves, it will never be enough. He turns these feelings outward, making everyone around him miserable for daring to be born with intellect inferior to his.

history;; Alexander Joseph Luthor was born into a life of destitution and neglect in Metropolis' most notoriously poverty-stricken neighborhood, Hobb's Bay, better known as the Suicide Slum. His alcoholic mother did her level best to ignore his existence, while his father regularly heaped physical and emotional abuse on the young boy. A petty tyrant of a man, Jules Luthor would often belittle his son's intelligence and snort with derision at the boy's desire to escape the Suicide Slum and make something of himself. Eventually, Jules' cruelty and Arlene's passive neglect would come back to haunt them when, at the age of 16, Lex took out a substantial life insurance policy on his parents without their knowledge. When he cut the brakes of the family car and sent his parents careening to their deaths, a crime he ensured would be viewed as an accident, he inherited a substantial amount from the insurance company, thus allowing him to take the first step toward being a self-made man.
After the accident, he was placed in the care of Casey and Emily Griggs, people that could easily match young Luthor's greed, if not his intelligence. The pair immediately conspired to embezzle Lex's newly-gained fortune, using their daughter Lena as a weapon against him. Initially, Lena was to feign romantic interest in young Lex to gain his trust, but when genuine feelings of love began to develop, Lena openly refused to have anything further to do with the scheme. Casey killed his daughter in rage at this development, and from there, ceased all attempts to wrest Lex's fortune from him, lest he become more suspicious. For months, Lex was shaken by the affair, but eventually came away from the incident with an even stronger belief in the principal that lead him to murder his biological parents; that he was the only person he could trust, and that love, be it romantic, platonic or familial, was largely overrated.
After leaving the Griggs household at the age of 18, Lex used his fortune to attend MIT, and later used this knowledge, in addition to the considerable amount of intelligence he already possessed, to found LexCorp Industries, Metropolis' leading conglomerate. His return to Metropolis, however, would be spoiled by the appearance of Superman shortly thereafter. Initially fascinated by the possibility of bringing the young Kryptonian under his wing, a bitter rivalry was born the very instant Lex realized that Superman would never break his rigid moral code. Since that fateful day, every power-grab and scheme of Lex's that could be seen as even slightly morally ambiguous has been thwarted by the Man of Steel, and his determination to finally best the Kryptonian has grown with each failure.

It wasn't supposed to be this way.
Two days. Two days. That's all the time it took for that fascist in blue tights to dig up everything he needed to prove that the AK-47s terrorist cells across the Middle East were currently enjoying were, in fact, provided by LexCorp. The weapons had been sold for a tidy sum, of course, money that would have eventually gone toward a new youth center (The Lex Luthor Recreational Center. He liked the sound of it.). But did this man, this Super Man, as the jackals in the media seemed to call him, give this any thought? Of course not. Too much to ask for a flying strongman in a circus uniform to see the bigger picture.
No, it wasn't supposed to be this way at all.
He'd scarcely been back in Metropolis a month, and already, he was at a disadvantage. The fact that he was currently sitting in jail was little more than a nuisance. He'd been arrested only that morning, but he fully expected to be home in time to watch the evening news praise their gaudy new hero. No, the real threat lay, as it often did, with the people. A whisper around the water-cooler, a snide comment from a police officer, and in no time, a mountain of disrespect would be upon him. The Luthor name would count for less, and that was unacceptable. No, he had to take action. Judges and witnesses would have to be paid off. Problematic loose ends would need to be silenced. Police captains would need to be provided with promotions. Favors, for which he had other plans, would have to be called in. It would cost him more than he liked, but by this time tomorrow, even the terrorists holding guns bearing the LexCorp emblem would doubt they were acquired from LexCorp directly.
Which left only his new rival. This would-be hero. This Super Man.
A cruel smile tugged at Luthor's lips as he lay on his hard, cold prison cot. Whoever – whatever- he was, the hero was just another problem... And if there was one thing Lex Luthor could do, it was solve problems.
