Batman didn’t trust her enough to tell her his identity, or let her into their little vigilante ‘let’s save the world’ club, but enough to get her a plane ticket (on the Batplane express) and fly her to Metropolis to spy on the LexCorp offices. At nine on a Friday night which involved a lot of convincing her Dad that she was “going to visit her college friend from Metropolis” to even try and get out of town for the whole weekend. What else would she have told him?
"Hey Dad, uhm... at night sometimes I dress up like a bat and Batman wants me to spy on that crazy bald guy in Metropolis Lex Luthor, so I sorta kinda gotta fly to Metropolis this weekend, because Batman will be all bitchy and angsty at me if I don't. But don't worry, Batman totally doesn't know I'm Batgirl. So it's all good." Except more than likely he did, Batman was like a computer, he just had to think a little bit and he would find the answer. It was likely that Batman, the superhero who was mortal for the love of God and knew the identity of a ton of villains, and superheroes, and could scare the living hell out of anyone, knew that she was Batgirl. It would be shocking if Batman didn't, it'd be like him not knowing the sky was blue.
For some reason she had a feeling that he didn't know the sky was blue, because of the fact that he NEVER CAME OUT IN THE SUNLIGHT. He was a vampire, or a creature of a night that would burst into twenty foot tall flamesand then his ashes would sparkle beautifully on the ground if he went into the light.
Woah, totally got off topic there. Anyways, on with the story. There was a 99.9% percent chance that Batman knew who she was, because he treated her like a child. While she... well she was the size of a twelve year old, she wasn't a child.
"Are you there yet?" The deep, cold voice echoed through her comlink that Batman had -demanded- she wore when she had gotten in the Batplane.
"I'm working on it! I've been to Metropolis twice in my life, and neither of them involved going to LexCorp and dressing up as some random business person." She huffed as she tugged at her hair nervously, walking into the LexCorp building and looking around. She had to get up a few floors before she could change, where was Luthor's office anyway?
"Twenty-second floor."
"Thanks." Was she sure he was completely human? No, she wasn't. Why? Because he didn't trust her, that was why, and sometimes he just knew what she was thinking. It was truly odd.
Her heels clicked as she walked on the floor towards the elevator, stepping inside of it, breathing slowly, in and out, in and out, in and out. She was fine, she wasn't alone, Batman was... guiding her? However he wasn't there to save her ass if she could shot at, which worried her. She had crashed a villain poker party, she had been so determined to prove herself to Batman that she hadn't been scared. Now all she was hopefully going to do was snoop around Luthor's office and not get caught.
The elevator dinged, and Barbara stepped out of it. It was dead silence, and she felt like all she could hear was her heart pounding in her chest. If she got nervous like this, she'd be reckless. She make some noise or another, or not move fast enough and end up getting hurt or screwing up. It had happened before and it would surely happen again.
"Nearest bathroom is down the hallway, second door on your left, then around the corner." She followed his directions into the bathroom and changed from the fake business outfit to the Batsuit. She didn't feel any calmer, and she stepped out of the bathroom her heart beating just as hard.
"His office?"
"Down this hall and to the right, last door at the very end. They'll be a passcode."
"How do you know all this?"
"I have my sources."
"Likely story."
She was trying to be as quiet as she could, while she knew there were cameras everywhere, they could only do so much. However one of the things they could do was alert Lex to his presence, even though it was late and if she were him she wouldn't have even BEEN in her office. She would have been home, sleeping or something. She came closer and closer to the door, until she was right next to security keypad.
"I take it you know this too?"
"Try 1763."
"Didn't work."
"How about 2930."
"Nada. How about those sources now?"
"6945?"
The keypad, instead of turning red with the wrong passcode as it had the last two times turned green and the door opened.
This was going to end badly, wasn't it?
